The Protection and Guard Service (SPP) is a state body with functions in the field of national security, specialized in providing protection for the Romanian dignitaries, the foreign dignitaries during their stay in Romania, and their\n families, within its legal competence. It also provides guard for the headquarters and residences of the above-mentioned dignitaries in accordance with the decisions of the Supreme Council of National Defence. SPP has a military\n structure and is part of the national defence system and through its specialized structures, has among other the following functions: organizes and carries out activities in order to prevent and annihilate any action that might be\n a threat to the life, physical integrity, freedom of action and health of the persons whose protection is in its charge; carries out the guard and defence of these persons’ headquarters and residences; organizes and carries out,\n overtly or under cover, activities of gathering, checking and using the necessary intelligence, only with a view to completing its missions accordingly to the law ; carries out exchange of intelligence and cooperates with intelligence\n services as well as with similar departments both within the country and abroad, in order to fulfil the specific missions stipulated by law; organizes and conducts, during the missions of protection and guard, the activity of all\n the participating forces; intervenes, independently or in cooperation with other institutions designated by the law in order to prevent or counteract the actions that may endanger the life, physical integrity, health or freedom of\n action of the protected as well as the security of the guarded objectives.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH)<\/p>\n

The Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH), founded in 2000, is the only research centre in Northern Greece and one of the largest in the country, and consists of the five institutes: (a) Chemical Process & Energy Resources\n Institute (CPERI), (b) Information Technologies Institute (ITI), (c) Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT), (d) Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB), (e) Institute for Research and Technology Thessaly (IRETETH). In CONNEXIONs,\n CERTH participates through ITI. The Information Technologies Institute (ITI) of CERTH has been a founding member of CERTH since 2000. Two CERTH-ITI teams participate at CREST: (i) the Multimedia Knowledge and Social Data Analytics\n laboratory (MKLab) and (ii) the Convex Cognitive Adaptive Optimization group (ConvCAO).<\/p>\n

MKLab has significant security research experience and scientific expertise on the discovery and mining of heterogeneous multilingual and multimedia (Surface\/Deep\/Dark) Web resources, social media monitoring, OSINT, semantic integration\n of heterogeneous resources, as well as activity recognition and object detection in multimedia data, including surveillance videos. MKLab also has a wide experience in statistical machine learning based methods, semantic reasoning,\n analysis and interoperability, content and service representation, multimedia forensics, topic\/event\/community detection, and visual analytics. In recent years, the team has coordinated and participated in more than 60 European and\n National research projects in the areas of multimedia processing, information extraction, and social media monitoring and analysis; the complete list can be found at: mklab.iti.gr\/projects. The team also exploits the results of European\n projects through its spin-off companies Infalia (www.infalia.com) and Carealia (www.carealia.gr).<\/p>\n

ConvCAO (www.convcao.com) has profound knowledge and broad experience in intelligent control and optimization of large-scale complex cyber-physical systems and their practical application in real-life. More specifically, the team is\n one of the world leaders as far as it concerns large-scale complex cyber-physical systems such as swarms of robots, smart traffic and transportation systems, and energy efficient system control. Theoretical research activities resulted\n in the development of popular intelligent control & optimization methodologies with many different real-life, ultra-large-scale implementations worldwide. This team of CERTH participates in 2 H2020 project on swarms for robots:\n RAWFIE (on platform for future internet infrastructures for swarms of robots) and ROBORDER (on swarms of heterogeneous robots for border surveillance). The Munich Police Department (MPD) is responsible for the security of more than 1.7 million people living in area of around 1,000 km\u00b2. Bavaria\u2019s capital is Germany\u2019s third biggest city and boasts a rich cultural heritage, world-class\n companies and a high standard of living. Considered one of the safest cities in Europe, around 6,200 police officers help to keep crime rates low (5,331 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants in 2019) and clearance rates high (62,3% in 2019).\n <\/p>\n

Beyond the regular tasks of daily policing and crime investigations, the Munich Police Department has decades of experience dealing with high-profile as well as mass events such as the Munich Security Conference (MSC), the Oktoberfest\n or regular football games of its local teams. <\/p>\n

Due to the extraordinary tasks of a police force in a constantly growing metropolitan area with its own specific challenges, MPD is engaged in research projects such as CREST to boost its operational as well as organizational capabilities.<\/p>\n

Center for Security Studies (KEMEA)\n

KEMEA has been established as the Greek Ministry of Citizen Protection (former Public Order & Citizen Protection) think tank on security policies. KEMEA is a scientific, consulting and research agency, whose purpose is to conduct\n theoretical and applied research and to produce studies, particularly at a strategic level, on issues concerning security policies. KEMEA also provides advisory and consulting services to the Ministry of Citizen Protection and other\n Public and Private authorities on these same issues. KEMEA up to now is successfully participating in more than 60 Projects of the EC, ESA and of National Resources.<\/p>\n

Hochschule fur den offentlichen Dienst in Bayern (BayHFOD)<\/p>\n

The Department for Police is located in F\u00fcrstenfeldbruck and in Sulzbach Rosenberg. Now there are about 800 students at the campus. It trains the students for the career of the professional and executive level of the Police Enforcement\n Service (Police Force \/ Constabulary or Criminal Investigation Police Department). Because of a later possible change from the police service in uniform to the service within the criminal investigation department and vice versa,\n there are no special fields of subjects installed at the Study Department. The University of Applied Sciences for Public Services in Bavaria \u2013 Department for Policing (BayHfoeD) is teaching future higher ranked police officers several\n subjects as follows: 1. Subject Section: Law \/ Jurisprudence: Law of Intervention, National \u2013 and Constitutional law, Criminal law and law of Summary Offence, Civil law, Traffic law, Law of Secondary Punishment, General law of Public\n Administration, Law of the Public Service, Law of Proceedings, Budget law and 2. Subject Section: Police Management: Criminalistics, Criminal Information\u2013 and Communication Techniques, Criminology, Operation Theory\/ Teaching , Traffic\n Management on tactical and strategic levels, Police Operations including e.g. crisis management, crowd management, Methodology of Leadership, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science(s) \/ Contemporary History, Communications and\n Conflict Management, Professional Ethics, Police Information- and Communication Techniques. The BayHfoeD is also holding a strong contact to the Ministry of the Interior and the police stations in Bavaria to keep the knowledge actual\n and to serve the needs of the members of the police officers and the citizens. Besides the later described European projects the BayHfoeD has supported the police academy in Bulgaria within an Erasmus project, a partnership with\n the police academy in Bucharest, Romania and a partnership with the police academy in Prague, Czech Republic. It also provides guard for the headquarters and residences of the above mentioned dignitaries, ensuring public order in the proximity of\n the strategic areas and headquarters. Due to the powers granted by the law (Law no.134 dated 13.06.2008 on the State Protection and Guard Service), the personnel of the Service is committed to provide a safe environment for the high-ranking\n officials, also it is entrusted to protect, to undertake specific measures aimed at capture and annihilation of terrorist and aggressive elements that might pose a threat to the life and health of the protected VIPs with the least\n impact on peaceful environment.
